We believe the Bible is like a deep well which contains life-giving Words that can
transform our lives for the better. Scripture contains hope, comfort and wisdom and one
of the surprising aspects of engaging with it is each time you read a particular story,
something new emerges like the refracted brilliance of a gemstone. There is always
something new to see or discover.

Engaging with Scripture is an encounter on multiple levels. It is an encounter with
God, an encounter with the generations gone by whose voices have interpreted these
texts over and over again, an encounter with the community who form an integral part of
these Scriptures, and an encounter with the deepest parts of ourselves as we connect
something living within us to what is living within these sacred stories. As Jesus Christ is
the Word Incarnate, it is also an encounter with the Living Word in the most profound
sense.
Bible Society Ireland, in conjunction with the worldwide fellowship of the United Bible
Societies (UBS), provides an invaluable service to local communities on an international scale.
Its heritage of translation and bible dissemination and its vision to make Scripture
accessible and available to all is one which is surely relevant across the divides of time,
politics, economics and culture.
